We began with Dr Oliver Stead who shared about the Webber works that he looks after as Curator of Drawings, Paintings and Prints at Alexander Turnbull Library, Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa, National Library of New Zealand. Nigel Borell (Pirirākau, Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Ranginui, Te Whakatōhea) a curator, writer, educator and artist specialising in Māori art then led the talanoa / kōrero on the Webber plate titled “A Hippah in Neew Zealand”. Mark Adams also shared his knowledge and insights within the context of his work as a photographer working with subjects of cross-cultural significance. Our first Lagi-Maama Talanoa Thursdays was rounded up with some critical reflections from Hūfanga-He-Ako-Moe-Lotu Professor ‘Ōkusitino Māhina.

The paper below provides a te ao Māori lens on the Webber plate “A Hippah in Neew Zealand” that was compiled by Nigel Borell and includes some critical insights and photographs from Mark Adams.
